We work in different fields in relation to the sustainable development of craftspeople and craft villages, including but not limited to research, training, income generation, capacity buiding, marketing, gender and environment. Some of our recent projects are:

Training on designs for women producers of handmade "Do" paper catered to foreign markets.

Developing new designs of handmade paper-based products intended for foreign markets, for example notebooks, handbags, and lamps. HRPC trained producers to utilize the combination of natural materials in paper products with traditional imprinting techniques... .

Research on the development of products purchased in Japan, Korea, USA, Canada, Australia and EU markets..
Based on the actual orders from the customers in the above countries to Ha Tay and Ninh Binh provinces, HRPC is analyzing the various market trends related to hand crafted bamboo and rattan products, lacquer wares, wood carving, lace and embroidery.

Research on ceramic villages in the provinces of Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Thanh Hoa, Ha Nam, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc and Vinh Long
HRPC conducts research on the history of regional ceramics, current market demands, product development, and the potential marketability of ceramics. HRPC has established a market strategy for the ceramics of Vietnam and researches methods to promote business in foreign markets.

Research on craft villages in Quang Nam and Da Nang
HRPC has researched the local history, and the current economic needs matched with, potential product development and marketing of craft villages in Quang Nam and Da Nang to publish a promotional handbook for local handicraft products.

Study on materials and distribution chains of craft villages
Our study points out the source of materials (bamboo, rattan, silk and wood) for the handicraft industry in Vietnam and its availability in addition to the role of stakeholders in handicraft production. From material harvesters to producers, middlemen, and traders, all roles are identified and patterns studied. The results of HRPC analysis led to solutions to maintain material sources for sustainable craft production and established how to best utilize the potential of the various stakeholders for sustained economic growth and opportunities..

Training on designs for home and garden decoration using bamboo material to approach Japan, Canada and Australia markets.
Developing new designs of handmade bamboo-based products intended for specific foreign markets, for example furniture and lamps. HRPC trained producers to utilize the combination of natural materials in bamboo products with traditional and innovative technique such as carbonized bamboo furniture.

Training on designs for home and garden decoration using bamboo material to approach Japan, Canada and Australia markets.
Main activities: Developing new designs of handmade paper-based products to approach foreign markets like notebooks, handbags, lamps... The idea of imprinting, combining natural materials to paper products was applied.

Training on quality and marketing management for production groups.
Implementing and maintaining Total Quality Management principles to sea-grass production groups. Training on marketing mix (5P) with more attention to be paid to pricing strategy.

Income generation for the impoverished communities of Ky Son district through the development of textile crafts, replacing the socially destructive opium poppy cultivation.
This project focuses on development of marketable designs based on traditional textile production of the Thai and the H'mong ethnic groups combined with the bamboo weaving of the Kamu people. HRPC also work to establish direct connection between these groups with local and foreign customers.

Study on Domestic violence against women of the textile craft villages, followed by the development and implementation of pilot community based intervention
Our project focuses on an investigation into the forms of violence, prevalence rates, physical, mental and sexual and health effects of domestic violence, coping strategies, and community attitudes to domestic violence against women. The project is designed to focus on the implementation of appropriate community based intervention and prevention strategies.

Income generation for the disadvantages and marginalized ethnic groups in mountainous Quan Hoa district through development of textile crafts.
The project focuses on development of marketable ethnic designs based on the traditional textiles of the Thai ethnic people. HRPC also work to establish a direct connection between these mountain villages and their local customers.

Reducing deforestation through income generation for the poor by effective usage of forest resources to develop environmental-friendly products.
This project is designed to introduce a new strategy for families in economically disadvantaged areas to generate income and employment through the utilization of locally available bamboo materials. The project focus is to create environmental-friendly and value-added bamboo charcoal for local use and addition to introducing this strategy on the international market in order to curb and replace income from deforestation. Through community education program, we aim to increase the awareness of society on the importance of environmental issues.

Export Potential Assessment of Arts and Crafts in Vietnam
The main objective of this project is to assist the government of Vietnam to achieve export growth targets set for the decade. For this purpose, HRPC explores avenues which will build up trade promotion and export development capacities of the Vietnamese Government, international trade support institutions, and exporting enterprises within Vietnam

Marketing Consultant
As a Marketing Consultant, HRPC supports handicraft importers in Japan and EU in analyzing the marketing potential of various Vietnamese handicraft products for export to Japan and EU.

Income generation for victims of human trafficking and high- risk women
Activities focus on sustainable livelihood skills training and income-generating activities for vulnerable women who are either victims or at high risk of being trafficked in the provinces of Ha Giang, Quang Ninh and Hanoi City . This project plays an important role, not only for socio-economic development of Vietnam , but also to wider regional developments working with socially marginalized victims of human trafficking.

Promoting Silk income for impoverish rural communities in the Central Highlands
The objectives of the project are (i) support eri silk production for sustainable poverty reduction, among the poor and disadvantaged ethnic minority populations in the distant and heavily forested Central Highlands, (ii) to support the development of an infrastructure for eri silk production in poor and remote areas, (iii) capacity building of poor ethnic minority households through training, and the transfer of appropriate technology, (iv) to link remote areas to new national and international markets.

Support Community-based tourism in Kim Bong village, Hoi An town, Quang Nam province
The objective this project is to combine the already existing attractions of Kim Bong village and a number of cultural and seasonal events into an attractive tourism product. Through an increase in sales of local carpentry products and tourism services, is an increase in employment opportunities. Additionally, community development through the collection of entrance fees will lead to a considerable reduction of poverty in the region.

Survey on Off-farm activities and potential of Non-timber Forest Products contributing to sustainable development in Nghe An
The project’s main objective is to survey and evaluate the potential of off-farm activities and Non-timber Forest Products to improve the overall level of development of the rural communities in Nghe An with a particular focus to improve the quality of life of individual households in a sustainable manner.
