Bat Trang people are proud of their craft. It is an integral part of their life that they learn naturally like one learns a language, and they give it their life with passion and loyalty. Many potters have left their names in the annals of souvenir, not only because of their technical mastery, rigorous shaping or traditional secrets of firing, but more because of the spirit they have instilled to their art. Free and calligraphic painting, accidental glaze effects, all features that characterize the freedom and individuality of Vietnamese traditional ceramics, have led the son of the former head of Hue museum to say, ‘Chinese pottery is good for the eyes; Vietnamese pottery is good for the heart.” Nothing is more true: It is the obvious easiness, natural talent, passion and warmth that touches the most in Vietnamese potters. Craftsman Le Van Cam is such a person.
