Ceramic craft in Vietnam has a long history dating back almost ten thousand years. It is not by chance that names of famous ceramic villages are ever present in folk-songs and represent such a strong value for Vietnamese people. As it marries earth and fire, ceramic represents the spirit of Vietnam: a unique blend of tradition and creativity, wisdom and passion.
Lacquer- ware 2,000 years of history makes Vietnamese lacquer wares irresistible to worldwide customers. Wall paintings, vases, boxes, interior decorating items, fashion wares and office products are most sought after.
Bamboo and rattan products from 713 craft villages have created a strong impression on foreign customers by their top quality, simple but innovative design, generating an export turnover of USD 50 million annually.
Vietnamese textile made of silk, cotton and hemp by skillful and dexterous weavers are widely known. Dresses, cloths, handbags, scarves and cushions are appealing to customers from every corner of the world.
Wood carving
Thousand types of wooden handicrafts have been made by 342 wood and wood carving craft villages throughout Vietnam. Among these, statues, home and garden furniture have internationally been recognized, earning export value of USD 40 million every year.
Embroidery and Lace first came to Vietnam over 700 years ago with simple designs. Nowadays, embroidered items have been lively depicted with natural pictures like birds, flowers and plants. Main items are shirts, pillow cases, table cloths and wall hangings.
Handmade paper is made from the cellulose found in fibers of Do plant, which is very tough and durable. It is said that writing on this paper can be kept for over 100 years. The famous "Dong Ho" folk paintings are using this paper. Besides, it can be used to make many other paper-based crafts such as notebooks, bags and postcards.
Stone every minor detail of Vietnamese stone statues represents the great passion of skillful carvers in their work. So much care has been placed on each act of chiseling and curving that "souls" of stone carvers can be perceived in each statue.
Metal art is an age-old traditional craft in Vietnam with 2,000 years old starting with famous bronze drums. Today, a wide range of products including silver-plated boxes, bronze incense-burners, wrought iron candle holders, wallets and trays have earned their reputation worldwide.
Sea-grass By skillful hands and creative minds, Vietnamese artisans have turned sea-grass into useful products for daily life. With various designs, sea-grass bags, boxes, mats & carpets have gradually found their position in the global market.
